Holiday Dog Bakes A Pie!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Whenever mom is in a pinch, say she needs a pie for Christmas dinner, it's Holiday Dog to the rescue! (That's me!) Here I am with my apple pie. I'm especially proud of my lattice cuts and egg wash with white sugar sprinkles that look like snow.
Also note the super cool green bell I got from Momma Dog's Pet Sit. I love it!

We drove to see Grandma and Grandpa yesterday on Christmas Eve. Here we are in the car, waiting and waiting. Heaven knows mom can't go anywhere without making a run through the drive-thru at Starbuck's. Hurry up! Did you know those jokers don't have dog biscuits anymore? The lady at the window said it was because they have to be individually wrapped. WHAT? I smell the work of bureaucrats!

I had fun visiting Grandma and Grandpa. They have such a cozy bed for me there, with a great view and plenty of sunbeams to bask in. Here I am contemplating mom's piano interpretation of Waltz of the Flowers. I think the piano needs a tune.

We listened to Christmas music in the car the whole way there and back. Thank goodness I don't have to hear the Chipmunks Christmas any more until next year. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa, for the big bag of dog food. Merry Christmas!

Install A Gas Log Fireplace In Just A Few Easy Steps!

Mom got a new gas log fireplace, just in time for some cold weather!

It was really easy to install, and you can see a few demonstrative photos here.

First, make sure everything is included in the box that is supposed to be. CHECK!

Make sure you have all the proper tools, because sometimes the elves can be forgetful. When that happens, they can get frustrated and just give up.

Carl and Jerry are professional engineers, and part-time elves who do nice things for people. Like put together stuff that could blow the building up if Mom tried to do it.

Be sure to sniff out all the parts for quality!

Ooooh, plumber's putty smells like it might be tasty! MMM.

Hey guys, that wrench you were looking for is right here under your feet!

Gosh, it's so hard to keep engineers organized.

And don't forget the instructions! They're under your feet too!

Now add Christmas decorations! Even though there is a screen and it's gas, it's a good thing to keep your decorations clear of the flames and your hearth clean. If you smell gas while the fire is off, open doors and windows and call the gas company!

If all is well, light a match, turn the key, and voila! Now add a snuggie yellow dog, and it's picture perfect!

Thanks Carl and Jerry!

Happy Holidays!

Lucy

Just In Time! More Stuff On My Head For Thanksgiving!

My favorite friend Kennedee came to town for Thanksgiving!

Here she's patting me on the head, and thinking about putting that pink rabbit on me.

Thinking about it some more here...

The pink rabbit is making it's way onto my head! My back is full of other toys, so of course where else would you put a pink rabbit?

This time Kennedee came with Kay Kay and a smaller, more energetic little wiggle monster. I just had to taste him! Just like a baby, he tastes like sugar and chicken! I only got a few licks, 'cause he moves fast!

I'm so glad my friends came to see me!

Unfairly Accused...of Stinking?!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope your holiday was wonderful!

My trip to Grandma and Grandpa's didn't start out so well. It was cool outside, and I felt so happy and frisky to be out of the backseat of mom's car! Once I got inside, it didn't take long for Mom and Grandma to sniff out that something stunk! The room I was in, right next to the garage... boy it reeked! It smelled like wet dog and hiney! Even though it was chilly out, that didn't stop mom from giving me a bath. Brr!

Here I am above, banished to the porch, cold and wet; Black and white photo below evokes true feelings of misery and banishment. Basket with overturned moonshine jug is only coincidental.

Afterward, I smelled better, but that room continued to stink and stink and stink more! We just couldn't figure it out. And when mom and I got back to Austin, her car didn't stink. I didn't stink either. She sniffed all over me, and just smelled baby shampoo. Even my blankie and pillow didn't stink. We figure I must have stepped in something in Grandma and Grandpa's yard and brought it in the house.

I still had fun visiting you, Grandma and Grandpa. I hope your sunroom doesn't stink anymore!

Love,

Lucy

Lonestar Showdown Tailgate Party in Mom's Office Parking Lot

Hot dog! Actually, three hot dogs, some queso, and chilli! It was coooold outside, but not too cold for a cookout!

Mom took me to her office for their tailgate party, where I was the official mascot. If you look closely, you can see that mom is not offering a "Hook 'em Horns," but something different. No, no, it's not THAT kind of "Hook 'em," it's a "Gig 'Em!"

Unfortunately, the picture uploader is being a big poo, and this is all I was able to post for now. There are more to come! It was a spirited, plate lickin', careless junk food eatin' good time!

Sunday Night

It was a busy weekend! First my birthday party, then Grandma came to visit on Saturday. I spent Sunday recovering, and working on my birthday rawhide. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Love,

Lucy

Happy Birthday To Me!

Mom finally figured out what I've been trying to tell her. She forgot my birthday! It's actually September 16th, but she was a little preoccupied then so I forgive her. Here are some shots from my 8th birthday party!

I love Auntie Katie; Mom Wants Boots For Her Birthday; I Made A Dog Friend!

OOH! Mom and Auntie Katie went to the Texas A&M game this afternoon (whoop, a win!) and they got too much BBQ at Rudy's.

Is there EVER such a thing as too much BBQ?

Here I am showing her my best behavior, and why I deserve some brisket (and bread, and sausage).

By the way, mom's birthday is coming up and she wants some cowboy boots like Katie's. Now that she can walk again, how cool would that be?

Here I am showing her my "down," but apparently my mouth got a little bit ahead of me here. Nobody's perfect, mom says.
Here I am thanking Auntie Katie for the treats! I love you!
In other news, I made a friend last night at Uncle Jamie's house. He is another big yellow, named Mikey. Mom and everyone else there were so very proud of me!
I hope all of you are having a beautiful weekend too!
Love,
Lucy

Yes, I did drool on your shirt.

Um, yesss? Can I help you?

Well that shirt you were planning on wearing, I drooled on it. That's why it's damp on one side.

Yep, that's my drool!

It's Friday! And Congrats!

It's Friday! October is almost over, and the weather is turning so nice and cool! I love it.

I haven't received any advice requests from my readers lately. How is everyone?

Here's a pic of me relaxin' and rechargin', head plugged into my Big Blue Orb of Knowledge. I just wanted to let ya'll know I'm here, filling my pointy noggin with useful information to pass on whenever ya'll need it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Oh, and congrats to Uncle Jamie and Aunt Meredith, who are gonna get hitched!

Raise your paw...

... if you've ever actually met somone named Cletus. Mom has! Check out this video. I could have helped them with that fish!

Trick or Treat!

Trick or Treat! I got a note from Kennedee today, and some treats!

Mom says the M&M's are just for her, but I say what could just one or two hurt? She said no, it was for my own good.

Well I still got a pretty neat pumpkin of the white and purple variety, with a cool glitter stem. Horticultural wonders never cease!

Thanks, Kennedee!

Love, Lucy

If Loving You Is Wrong...

Check it out! Today's entry from The Daily Puppy has mom in absolute convulsions.

http://www.dailypuppy.com/puppies/Murphy-the-Labrador-Retriever_2008-10-13

She's giggling out of control! I'm afraid nothing can stop her. It's hard to get her to compose herself just from looking at the Cottonelle toilet paper package, which makes her late for work every morning.

I don't know how to help her. She's talking gibberish, going on about the soft schnoz, the oversized feet, the swirly tummy fur. She's out of control.

Oh who am I kidding... I love it! I get extra snuggles when she's like this!

Let's hear from a famous blonde...

Since I'm low on advice material lately, let's hear from a famous blonde...one of mom's favorites, Dolly! Thanks to YouTube, we can surf for all kinds of Dolly gems.

First, mom wants to know where she can get a bodacious dress like that! I am not being sarcastic, and neither is she! Mom especially loves that song, and the yodelling at the end. (She fancies herself a yodeller, this being one of her favorites, and also the Lonely Goatherd song from The Sound of Music. I just let her think whatever she wants, as long as she doesn't do it in public). I like the song too, but I would have handled that "big black dog in the yard" a little differently.

I love Dolly's wig, and that the theme of the set is YELLOW! Like me! And HEAR THAT GEE-TAR! It's an all around great video. And what a great love song! Girl leaves her better judgement behind, goes walking down the railroad tracks, and falls for the quirky but lovable, bearded hermit living in the dilapidated shack. People told her not to go there, but she went anyway. She said "Yeah!" when he asked if she'd stay. Way to follow your heart, girl!

Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! We may make hearing from famous blondes a regular feature!

Lucy

I'm Pet of the Month!

Well, I didn't really feel all that different when I woke up Saturday morning, but my mom told me I was Pet of the Month! I was in the middle of breakfast, so maybe I just wasn't really awake yet. I still feel like the same old me, only now a little yellower, a little fluffier, a little more cuddly and beautiful. Just a little. Anyway, it's back to business as ususal! Helping mom out around the house, being a foot-warmer, keeping the kitchen floor licked.

Anyway, you can check it out, here:

Happy Monday!

Lucy

A Message About Safety: Use Your Backyard! Or a Leash.

Mom and I have one big pet peeve, and that's people who let their dogs run around off the leash. We know you think your dog is smarter than average, and always obeys your commands. Uh huh. When your dog gets hit by a car, you are going to CRY. I know it's a hard thing to think about, but it's reality.
First, my dog walkers and I have been encountering some loose Big Brownies at night. They are about my size. I told them off several times, which seemed to make sense with them, but not their parents. You see parents, YOU are responsible for YOUR dog's safety, and the safety of other dogs when you don't put them on a leash. Also, consider other people. Some people don't want to be jumped on and scratched, and they don't want their dog jumped on and riled up.
Second, we live in a really nice neighborhood, on busy streets, with big houses. Big houses have nice, big backyards. Now why would you have a big, safe, enclosed back yard and not use it? Yet every morning and evening, I see herds of dogs (all sizes) running out the front door and into the yard. What if your dog chases after a squirrel and into the street? What if someone is driving too fast and can't stop? What if your dog gets into a fight with another dog? I swear I didn't start it with that chihuahua one time... he accused me of making Taco Bell jokes and it just wasn't true!
Anyway, here's my point:
If you have a backyard, USE IT! I'd love to come and take big steamy dumps in your backyard, but some people don't even appreciate that they have one. You might have to scoop a few times, or run over a few bombs with the mower, but it might save your dog's life. It's common sense!
Respectfully,
Lucy

Tricked!

I was tricked! Mom told me we were going swimming, and she lied! On the upside, I am pretty fluffy, and I smell good.

Australian Shepherd Wishes Black and White Cat Would Scram

Dear Lucy,

What is this cat doing in my bed? What should I do?

Despondently,

Fuji

Dear Fuji,

I can't tell you where that cat came from, but many contemporary thinkers, including evangelical ministers, tv financial coaches, and Oprah believe that what happens to you is a product of your own most frequent thoughts. There are quite a few bestsellers out there that would suggest your thoughts manifested that cat into your bed. Maybe you are secretly resentful of this kitty who shares your home, and have always been worried that she might encroach on your personal space. You were so afraid it would happen, and now it has.

Have you tried woofing at the cat? Have you tried those Goldfish on the coffee table behind you? Do you realize you are bigger than the cat? Truly, you need to just assert yourself and physically move the cat. Cats get irritated easily, and may threaten you with their claws, but with enough courage and woofing, you CAN get the cat to get off your bed.

Also, your bed is too small. And it's flat. Maybe you should just let the cat have it. I think you need your own baby mattress with Whinnie the Pooh sheets, but that's just me.

Love,
Lucy

I love Jane. Jane Jane Jane!

This is Jane, my new best friend! I love her! She comes to walk me almost every day and night. Jane Jane Jane! And Peggy. I like her also. And those other people who came to walk me one day... I like them also. Sometimes I wipe out on the turn around the sofa when I know Jane is coming! She always gives me treats, and advocates my mom feeding me more. Of course input leads to output, which is why I need Jane while mom is still recovering. But that's not the only reason I like her.

Jane is from Momma Dog's Pet Sit, but we now call her a friend and think she's just the coolest!

I Love My Dog Walkers, Mom Loves Old Movies

I just want to say, since mom hired dog walkers, I have never had so much fun! Three times a day someone comes to take me out on a neighborhood romp. The walkers are so nice and I LOVE THEM. I get so excited when I hear them coming up the stairs, I wipe out on the turn around the sofa to the front door. I LOVE THEM! This is a recycled photo of me being excited, but this is how I feel when they come!

Mom and I are totally addicted to the classic movie channel. In the last few days we managed to watch Psycho, Gidget, Track of the Cat, Imitation of Life, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Under the Yum Yum Tree (gratuitously stupid but we watched it anyway), Viva Las Vegas (silly, but has Elvis in it so that always qualifies as entertainment), Swiss Family Robinson, Old Yeller, Bonjour Tristesse (so sad and bleak!), something with Ava Gardner, and two really old Cary Grant movies we can't remember the name of. They were cute though!
Mom has a four- decades-too-late crush on Dean Jones, of the stupid Yum Yum movie, also famous in The Ugly Dachshund and That Darn Cat. Also she favors Kahuna over Moondoggy, but Gidget ends up getting Moondoggy's ring in the end before he goes off to college. Also memorable was how Elvis (Lucky) runs the Texans out of the bar in Viva Las Vegas. I liked that because he sang "The Eyes of Texas are Upon You." But that's because I am a Longhorn. Mom sang "I've Been Working On The Railroad" over it! She can be so rude sometimes!
Those are all the updates I have. Stay tuned for more info about my wonderful dog walkers!
Love,
Lucy

Uncle Clay Came to See Me!

Yippee! We always have so much fun with Uncle Clay (Aunt Allison's hubby). Thanks for walking me Uncle Clay!
Meanwhile, mom says I can't seem to do anything without looking ridiculously cute. I mean, I don't even have to try hard these days. I'm just so photogenic, she says, always posing for the perfect pic. Well, I have to say I'm a lucky dog getting to play with so many of my friends these days! She says I've been "taking some liberties" with the sofa though. I'd better back off a little so I don't get banished completely.

XOXO,
Lucy

Another Day, Another Horse on My Head

Oh what a surprise this morning! Kennedee came over with her mom and Kay Kay! And more carrot cake!
And of course you know what that means, things are going to get balanced on my head.
Yippee! We played and wrestled, and threw my toys around.

Kennedee acts like she she doesn't like kisses, but here is photographic evidence that she really does!
Hee! I got her good that time!

And now I am worn out. I can't wait for my friend to come back and visit again!

Aunt Allison Came To Walk Me!

Aunt Allison came to walk me today!

Do you know what that means? I got to lick TWO barbeque plates today!

Hot diggity! How lucky is that? Sauce, potato salad, beans! I am not so lucky to have caught any falling brisket or sausage yet, but I am patient.

Thanks Aunt Allison! I love you!

Also here's the lucky moth we were telling you about. It got finished with us I guess and decided to take some luck down to our neighbors.
What kind of moth is this? Is that little green leaf its dinner (that it positioned conveniently nearby), or is it another little moth in disguise? Mom looked closely but she couldn't tell. Anyway the moth is a whole lot bigger than it looks in this picture. It's a good 3-4 inches wide.
Any moth experts in our small group of readers?
See you little moth buddy!
UPDATE: The moth has been determined to be a LSU fan, and the green leaf was placed there by my neighbor as a snack for the moth!

Taking Care of Momma!

Mom had surgery to fix her foot, and here it is! We got up really early to go see Dr. B, and he did a great job. On the way there we saw two rainbows, and last night we were visited by a ginormous yellow moth. We decided those were good luck omens!
Fixed foot, directly to the left of my shnoz:
Note missing toenail, which was not actually a result of falling off the horse, but from a drunk guy who stepped on mom while country dancing at the Broken Spoke. It was mom's last night of dancing for a while, so at least it was fun and it was good music from Dale Watson!

It hurts mom A LOT. Even her medicine doesn't make all of the pain go away. So she has to keep her foot up, and grandma is here helping out and bringing us Diet Sprites and crackers. Kay Kay even made us carrot cake!
For lunch, mom got takeout from Luby's. I was so jealous!

Mom has to have crackers with her medicine, but she snuck one for me. Mom can only eat so many crackers, and grandma brings SO many! Shh... don't tell her!
Mom is very happy her last major injury has been fixed and she's on the road to recovery. Yay!
I saw Aunt Amanda today, and Aunt Leslie is maybe coming on Sunday! I'm SO excited!
Thanks Grandma and Grandpa, for all your help too!

Lucy has a crush...

...on mom's friend Keith!

He gives belly rubs!

Sometimes he plays a little rough, but that's okay...

...Because I love to wrassle!

I love to give him kisses! I hope he comes back to walk me soon!
SIGH.
