Nest Watch: Squatters Starting to Outstay Their Welcome

Here's an update. Mom has steadily shifted her opinion of the residents of this hanging plant. Once precious miracles, they are now high-maintenance squatters that she secretly wishes would grow up and get the hell out of her plant so she can water it. Well, I guess it's not a secret anymore! Listen juniors, let's not take all year.

And here is a snapshot of one of the culprits, bringing something nasty and dismembered to feed to the kiddos. Gross!

It was fun while it lasted. You birds are cute, but we're kind of over it. Thanks for visiting.

Nest Watch 2009: Eeek!

Day 6 (I think) here and the youngsters are giving us a close up look at nature in action. Frankly, they're kind of giving me the creeps. No longer resembling juicy rotisserie chickens or raw oysters, the babies are looking more like dinosaurs who will peck your eyes out and steal your soul. Can you imagine your body changing like this so quickly? One day your reflection in the water bowl is soft and smooth, and the next you're growing a wierd mohawk, claws, and feathers. Ick! Feathers growing in is just a creepy thing. So are giant eyeballs with tiny slits in the middle. Eeew!

Here they are beginning to spread their widdle wings out, and Junior is cheeping for breakfast. Apparently his mom is supposed to just come along and put food in there. It's amazing how that works! Maybe I"ll try that myself and see if any biscuits fall in!

Ah, no such luck. Apparently flopping over, mouth gaping is only effective for some species. Kind of like mom leaving her shoes and stuff all over the living room, hoping someone will come pick up after her. No such luck.
See you for the next installment of Nest Watch!

Nest Watch 2009: Dreaming About Tiny Rotisserie Chickens

Day Three, and all five of the babies are accounted for! Mom went out to check on them today. Junior Wings in the middle is the leader of the nest. Mom tapped on the side of the pot (to wake up momma bird so she wouldn't fly out in her face while she was at the top of the ladder). Junior streeeetched up his leel newborn noggin and cheeped the tiniest, softest of cheeps. Cheeeep. (Sung in very soft middle C).

During my nap later, I kept drifting in and out of sleep. I just couldn't stop dreaming about teeny tiny rotisserie chickens. I'm usually great at dream interpretations, but this one has me stumped!

Hope everyone had a great day today!

Lucy

How to Be the Best Cuddle Puddle You Can Be

I've been defeated, deposed, displaced as master of the Cuddle Puddle! April's cat, Jin Han, submitted her puddle photo and I officially hand the crown to her.

There aren't really words to describe how to acheive the perfect Cuddle Puddle. Either you have it, or you don't. You just let your whole body go soft, and flop over, then roll between 10 and 12 degrees onto your back. Some people meditate on softness before they flop, some people are just spontaenous floppers. It's all up to you.

Just remember, some Cuddle Puddles welcome being cuddled, and some are just messing with you. Use caution before sticking your soft human fingers and toes into the middle of the Puddle's tummy!

Thoughts on Pet ID Tags

Mom was on her way to get coffee this morning when she saw a cute little white snack-uh, her, doggie running around the corner near Starbuck's. Knowing she can't pick up every dog that runs loose, she took a deep breath and continued on. When she left with her coffee, said cute dog was running in the middle of the busy street! Well she pulled over and rolled her window down, and through it flew that little white snack dog.

Mom drove around almost an hour with the little white dog, trying to find her people. She called the number on the tag, but the guy who answered was the owners ex-husband, who lived in another state! All the numbers he gave didn't work. Luckily he kept trying, and was able to help mom find her people's family and drop her off. It's a good thing he was a nice, helpful ex, and not a mean one who didn't care.

It just goes without saying, if you move to another state, or just another city in the same state, update your dogbabies' tags! They are less than $10 at your local pet wonderland. Really, it's such a small thing. Do it!

Visiting the V-E-T

Mom thinks that when she's talking to other people and she says that I have an appointment with the "V-E-T" to get my "S-H-O-T-S" that I don't know what that spells. Duh! She makes a big deal of it, but really I'm so over it before I even get there.

Tuesday we went to see Dr. Toth, who is great. I got shots, a checkup, and created a sample for them. All is well!

Lucy

Waiting and Waiting and Waiting...Finally!

Finally, our AC was fixed today! Boy, mom and I waited though. We waited, and waited, and waited some more! It was soooo hot! Finally the repair man called and said he was on his way... an hour from here! BAROOO!

I was so frustrated, so hot. I was so mad, I...shredded a bag of cotton balls!

I felt better afterward. Mom was very forgiving, since I was under stress. We all get stressed sometimes and have to shred something.

The repair man cleaned things and blasted 30 years of dirt out of the pipes, which exploded all over the bathroom in a muddy mess. Really, it was like a geyser of mud. If you're interested, I can tell you how mud forms in your AC pipes, and then explodes out of your sink drain. But you probably don't care. Anyway, all is well and now we are chilling at the polar temperature of 70 degrees, vents open and blazing. Our new thermostat rocks! We promise to be a little more energy conscious in the coming days, but tonight we're enjoying this little blizzard. Brrr!

Lucy

People, It's Hot. Also, Nest Watch 2009!

Hey everyone,

Our inadvertent contribution to Earth Day is that we haven't run the AC at all today... or many more days for that matter. Our AC is broken, and it's HOT! It has actually been out for a week or more, but we've been sticking it out because the nights have been cool. But today, in true Texas fashion, it was 97 degrees on April 22nd. People, it's just HOT! Luckily the repairman is coming tomorrow and is going to let us know if he can fix it or if we need a new AC. Cross your fingers and toe beans that the news is good! I'll keep an eye on him and make sure he's doing a good, honest job. Bet he doesn't suspect I'm handy with tools!

In other news, look what we found! Now we KNOW the nest is currently under construction. Mom took it down to look at it again tonight, and things look different. Can you spot the new addition?

This nest is made out of ME! Those birdies are going to be born with dog hair stuck all over them, and no birdie sized lint rollers. Yikes! Mom is laughing because there are just clouds of my fur all over the house, and she'd happily lend it to the birds if they want it. So, with this new development we know that the birdie maternity ward is under construction. I can't wait to see what's next!

Lucy

Where dem baby birds at?

We found a bird's nest in one of the plants! Mom kept thinking the plant looked funny, and finally she took it down and found this little birdie maternity ward:

Sadly, no baby birdies. Where'd they go? Did the nest just get built? So many questions. We just put it back up there. We'll let you know if anything happens, like if some eggs appear in it.

Sunday Photo Study: Cuteness

This was mom's idea. I'm not a shameless self-promoter, as it may appear when one posts tons of pictures of themselves looking adorable. But it IS true, so why not?

Mom got me a new bone today, which is always reason to smile!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! What a beautiful day it turned out to be. It was pouring down rain this morning, and mom was so tired. Mom is sad that she didn't get to see Grandma and Grandpa today, but they understood and said we could visit another weekend.

Well, the sun came out, and it was a gorgeous day! Mom went to church and heard a great sermon titled "It Isn't Over." The pastor talked about how God isn't done with us. Good things are still to come. You know, that's good to hear! I guess he said it better than mom or I could, but that was the main point. Then mom went over and had BBQ with Aunt Amanda and Uncle Terry at their family's house. I hear there were two cute kiddies and lots of Easter eggs! I wish I could have been there.

Later, Aunt April came over, and brought us the Willie and Bobbie Nelson Gospel CD that they love so much. She and April like to sing the songs on the way out to the horse. It makes them really happy! So, here's a link to "Lilly of the Valley" because it goes with the theme of today. No matter what you believe in, Easter Sunday is a great day to think about hope and new beginnings. And any day is a good day to listen to Willie, according to mom and April. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8v4Emivg4w. It looks like his lips are actually singing something else in the video, but you still get to hear the song and see him in pigtails and that red, white, and blue guitar strap. Awesome. Click on the link!

Hope everyone had a great day! Happy Easter!

Love,

Lucy

Happy Easter, Bunny.

I've got some advice for you, Peter Cottontail:

Don't get to big for your britches, okay? Flopsy Hoppity Buns here, well he thought I might like some of those low-sugar, organic Easter treats in my basket. Let's just say I'm not so interested in THOSE kind of treats!

I'm just sayin', you know.

Housework Is SO Undignified!

It's Spring Cleaning time. Now that my 3 month vacation is over, mom is insisting that I start pulling my weight around the house again. UGH! Really? So undignified.

What is this Cold War relic, anyway? It's Kay Kay's Electrolux, on semi-permanent loan for deep cleaning jobs. Mom says it really sucks! Dirt, that is. She assures me it's not a leftover Soviet missile, so I guess I'll start getting to those corners!

I hope my readers start sending me advice requests soon so mom will ease up on the chores!

Love,
Lucy

Been Busy

As many have pointed out, I haven't posted since Christmas. Well, Happy New Year!
